Notifier by Honeywell has updated its free and highly successful ‘Little Black Book' on fire safety design, intended as a helpful tool for anyone involved in the design or specification of a fire detection system.
Following the popularity of the first edition, published in 2013, the guide has been updated to take account of changes in legislation concerning the standards BS5839, part one (which covers installation), BS5839 part eight (voice alarms) and BS EN54 part 23, which provides a new standard for visual alarms. The guide also has a new section on remote connectivity in relation to Notifier's ONYXWorks IP graphics workstation.
The updated ‘Little Black Book' details the common elements that should be considered when installing or upgrading a fire safety system. In addition to discussing different detection technologies for varying applications, the handy detector selection guide details the various approaches to be considered to avoid the potential for false alarms while maintaining the fastest detection of real fires.
Topics covered include: system design; point detection; beam detection; Aspirating Smoke Detection (ASD); voice alarms; emergency voice communication; central battery systems and paging systems. There is also a useful chapter which outlines the importance of working with a competent supplier and engineer, as well as what qualities and experience to look for in a partner.
"Notifier by Honeywell is committed to providing information, resources and learning materials to promote better fire safety," said Gregg Bushell, senior marketing communications executive.
He added: "The first edition of our ‘Little Black Book' proved to be extremely popular across the industry. Printed in an easy-to-use format, it has now been updated to take account of all the changes that we believe will be of real interest and technical value."
