As the Principal Contractor for the construction phase of this project, Grainger Fire & Security had full CDM responsibilities to plan, manage & monitor all aspects of the project.
This project saw the installation of a new fire alarm system throughout the entire Lymm High School campus, which included a large listed building and separate leisure centre. The installation consisted of an 11 node, 22 loop Advanced Electronics enhanced networked system, using the excellent Apollo protocol. To meet with the requirements of the listed building application and to ensure the system itself met with BS5839-1:2013 category L1, required meticulous planning and thorough installation methods, to ensure many years of faithful service.
As well as the short time frame and the physical size of the project, another challenge was the automatic detection in science labs and cookery rooms (amongst other areas) where the obvious risk of false alarms are present. Our solution was to install multi criteria detectors, which switch to heat only detection during school hours and smoke detection at all other times, to ensure full protection of these areas once the risk of false alarms had passed.
The completed system was handed over to the school on 27th March 2015, less than 5 months from the start dated - both on time & within budget.
Grainger Fire & Security would like to say a big thank you to all at Lymm High School, Lymm Leisure Centre, AA Projects, REDS Building Services Consultants and all who were involved with this project.
